When to Apply Nematocide

Nematodes are often called "hidden pests" due to their microscopic size and lifestyle. They live in the soil or inside plants, feeding on their juices, so it's virtually impossible to detect them visually without special testing.

The damage they cause doesn't appear immediately but gradually, in the form of a general weakening of the plant: slowed growth, yellowing leaves, or deformed stems and roots. These symptoms are often mistaken for nutrient deficiencies or other diseases. As a result, nematodes can harm crops for years, going unnoticed. Only when their population reaches a critical level does it become obvious that the cause of the problem lies in these invisible but extremely dangerous pests.

How to Protect Your Plants

For effective and safe protection, soil bioinsecticides based on bacteria are used. Imex Agro has developed a new biological product, Nematocide, which is based on the bacteria Bacillus firmus and Bacillus pumilus. These bacteria are widely used to control soil pests like nematodes and to improve plant health. The recommended dosage for Nematocide is 10g per 100 square meters.

When to Apply It

Nematocide is applied in several stages:

  • Before Sowing/Planting: This ensures that beneficial bacteria colonize the soil before the plant starts to develop, creating favorable conditions for its growth and protecting it from pests from the very beginning.

  • During the Growing Season: The product can be applied to the soil in the root zone of plants or with irrigation water. This is relevant when pests have been detected or for prevention. It is often recommended to apply it several times throughout the year.

  • For Seed Treatment: Some products are used for pre-sowing seed treatment, which helps protect young plants from soil pests and diseases.

How to Apply It

The most common and effective methods are:

  • Soil Application: The product is applied directly to the soil before planting or during cultivation when the soil temperature reaches +10°C. This ensures direct contact between the bacteria and the pests and their eggs. The application interval can be 30-40 days, with 3-4 applications recommended per season.

  • Irrigation: The solution is added to the irrigation water. This allows the bacteria to be evenly distributed in the root zone of the plant. This method is effective for fertigation and drip irrigation.

  • Seed and Root Treatment: Seeds and root systems are treated with a solution of the product before sowing, by dipping the plant in the solution. This creates a protective barrier around the seeds and roots, promoting healthy sprouting and development of the root system.

Important Recommendations

  • Moist Soil: Bacteria become active and multiply in moist soil. Therefore, it is best to apply the product to moist soil or with irrigation water. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT CONDITION FOR EFFECTIVENESS!

  • Compatibility: It is not recommended to use products based on Bacillus firmus and Bacillus pumilus at the same time as antibiotics and some fungicides, as they can inhibit the vital activity of the beneficial bacteria.

  • Following Instructions: Always carefully read the instructions and details of the product's use and application, as the dosage rates, application methods, and timing can be crucial.

These bacteria help fight nematodes, fungal diseases (such as root rot), and also contribute to improving the microbiological composition of the soil and plant growth.
